A Slideshow of Favorite Memories
|
I fell in love with writing before I ever began writing. In elementary school, I competed in citywide poetry and storybook recitation contests. I memorized dozens of poems by Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou and others and never considered writing any myself because those standards were so high. That all changed when I won a Brooklyn Borough President's award in middle school for the first poem that I ever wrote. That made me rethink things. I realized that God gave me a talent and a unique story to share. I absolutely love writing now whether it is scholarly writing or in various forms of creative writing.

CONTRIBUTING WRITER
It is an honor to collaborate with other publications. I look forward to being published someday in a scholarly capacity.

SPOKEN WORD/POETRY
Countee Cullen (one of my favs) called himself a poet of the "measured line and skillful rhyme". I echo his sentiment.

PUBLISHED AUTHOR
I was blessed to be published in a women's anthology. I am now working on my own books and am excited to release them.

PERFORMING POETRY
Although I have studied literary poetry and can write in perfect iambic pentameter when the piece calls for it, spoken word poetry has my heart. I enjoy the ability to connect with an audience and share some aspect of my story which might encourage them. On this occasion, I was blessed to share a piece at the New York stop of the P.I.A. tour about my struggles with self-acceptance and Godfidence. I hope it helps you reflect on your own unique value. |
